Capt Dave's Tips

We've cut back on the number of annual newsletters and now only issue them when there's neat stuff coming up and boy there's a lot going on this season!

I always try to impart some words of wisdom with each newsletter, but the only reflections that I can share today are the same ones that I live by each week.  I can not tell you how much I look forward to getting out of the office and on the water throughout the week. There's just something special about escaping it all for a just a few hours!

We can all find joy during our escape and not wait until we have appropriate time to become an expert.  Do what you can and later you'll find more time. It's been said that before you can learn to enjoy doing something well you must first find joy in doing it not so well.  We must remember that we don't have to be perfect at our endeavors to find joy in doing them, even while learning.

Through dedicated persistence and patience we'll eventually run out of ways of doing it wrong.  It's usually wise to have an expert on hand while we're learning so that the experience is memorable for all the right reasons!  Let us lend a hand and you'll find joy from the first moment you step aboard!

See you on the water soon!

     So What's NEW!

Mother's Day Sail
Water time is special time.  No Phones, no TV, no Text, no Email.  Yes, it might be available, but that's not the point!  Honor someone special with the gift of a 2-hr relaxing sail down Lake Lanier with our capable Captain as their host.  Yes there will be others aboard, but it's limited to 6 participants.  We'll go where ever they desire!  Anyone who wishes to steer or trim the sails is welcome to jump in.  This day is about them!  $72 pp or $95 for two.

Web Calendar Enhancements

Next time you're booking classes and need successive dates for a class, you can click "View By Course" from the menu bar, after logging in, to change from Calendar view to a list of class dates.

It's always a good idea to click "My Summary" when you're done just to verify that your registration was successful.

Best In Gwinnett
Students voted Windsong Sailing Academy as Best in Gwinnett for 2009.  It is our goal to consistently meet and exceed expectations throughout the season but it's always nice to be recognized in the media so that others pursuing sailing dreams will know the difference we've made in your lives.

In business we always forget to ask for referrals, but bringing a friend along with you the next time you take a class is the ultimate compliment of our value to you, your family and friends.

If you've found your Windsong experience to be exceptional, we welcome your comments at Kudzu.com. This is the only way others can learn first hand about the quality and personal service that we guarantee.

Need A Mid Week Break?
Starting May 18th our "Mid Week Sailing Outings" begin for those who need a mid week break and can get up to the lake by 6:30.  These weekly mid week outings are great because they occur during the cooler times of the day when the lake is less crowded and we generally return to the marina as the sun is setting; a truly special time to be on the lake.  Check our calendar for other dates and times throughout the summer or call us for reservations.

Sunset Nature Cruises & Celebrity Cruises
Sunset cruises are a great way to introduce yourself or your "special someone" to the joys of sailing in a social setting. Each cruise offers an escape for some time alone on the tranquil waters of Lake Lanier under sail, a romantic escape for a couple, celebration of a special event or time to yourself if you choose to come alone!

Reservations are $72 per person or $95 for a couple for the 3-hour cruises.

Everyone enjoys the peace and quiet of the Nature Cruises, but we have added some celebrities to select cruise dates, however, due to the nature of the entertainment business, their appearances are not guaranteed, but so far we've never had a "no show".

Sunset Cruises - Nature Cruise
We generally start each cruise with a humorous safety discussion followed by some light snacks and non alcoholic beverages shortly after departing from the docks.  The crew does the docking and departing, but guests are welcome to participate in the operation and steering once we get under sail.  The goal is to return to the docks about half an hour after sunset so that everyone can enjoy the serenity of the moment!

It's a great social outing with lots of private time, jokes, games and great conversation.

Fireworks Cruise
Each year we participate in a unique opportunity to observe the Fireworks Show conducted by University Yacht club on Lanier.  This is one of our most popular outings. Participants experience the brilliance of the spectacular show from our boats situated in the bay within excellent ear and eye shot.  If you've never experienced a fireworks show while on the water you've missed the best seats possible. The reflection of the explosions light up the waters around you and the percussions of the show echo across the waters.

Since this annual event occurs the day before July 4th there are no traffic jams or crowds to contend with.

Celebrity Cruise Night - Joe Turner (Magician)
Corporate magician Joe M. Turner (www.turnermagic.com) will entertain us on our August cruise.  Joe’s combination of sleight-of-hand and mental magic has been featured everywhere from Massachusetts to Maui – and has put him in high demand by companies like Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Pratt & Whitney, and hundreds of others.  Joe’s application of magic to corporate messaging was featured on CNN Headline News.  He performs at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, the Dickens Parlour Theatre in Atlantic City, and in his own one-man show, Shenanigans, at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta.

With Joe’s warm, witty personality and world-class sleight-of-hand skills, this will be a cruise to enjoy and remember!

Sept 18th
5:30-8:30

Celebrity Cruise Night - Jesse Milton (Mentalist)
Jesse will be returning to amaze us again for his 4th season with his unique mental abilities.

When Milton is around, some unusual things happen. The belief in the impossible is kindled and intuition is ignited.  Everybody has a great time.  Milton is a cerebral entertainer who can:

  • Discern names, numbers, and important years from the past
  • Intuitively predict mental images, and perceptively discover things about individual personalities
  • Show participants how their own intuition can be set ablaze

Milton is NOT a mind reader, but his engaging and light presentation is filled with surprises, bizarre phenomena, and audience participation.  The audience will warm up quickly, and will find out things about each other they never knew.

Ghost Stories of Lanier - Mysterious Guest Story Teller
Join us for our 6th annual fun filled evening of ghost stories; some true and some perhaps less so, but perhaps that depends on where you're sitting...

Bring your imagination and your creativity because we've been known to create some stories of our own as we cruise the mysterious waters surrounded by shorelines filled with history and intrigue.
