Coastal Navigation (105)
Now you too can charter your own vacation along the waterways. Complement your skills with the security of understanding how to do your own navigation using marine charts and other government publications.

Our extensive curriculum consists of a sequence of four individual courses.

 
CON_105_a 7 ½ hr classroom “Navigation Principles” class.  
CON_105_b 5 hr classroom “Lab” hands-on instruction. (Optional)
CON_205_c 2 hr on-the-water hands-on exercises - DAYTIME (Optional)
CON_205_n 2 hr on-the-water hands-on exercises - NIGHTTIME (Optional)
GPS Nav 2 hr on-the-water hands-on exercises - DAYTIME (Optional)

CON_105_a
This three-evening 7 1/2 hr program will cover the chart plotting techniques and navigation theory (Bow & Beam Bearings, DR, EP, RF, Fix, 60DST, Danger Bearings, Tides & Depth calculations) for easy and successful cruising. This course also includes an exhaustive survey of the government and private publications every prudent mariner should be aware or have on board.
Requirements: None
Supplies Required:  Plotting tools are provided but bring a basic calculator, Pentel eraser & Pentel mechanical pencil.

CON_105_b
This 5 hr classroom "Cruise" provides the application and practice of the theory learned in the navigation core theory class. Many programs only "Discuss" the navigation tools. This class provides the opportunity to apply and practice your theory knowledge during an extensive classroom cruise designed to stretch and solidify your understanding and skills.
Requirements: CON_105_a
Supplies Required: Plotting Tools, Calculator, Pencil, Eraser & Highlighter.

CON_205_c
This on the water challenge offers practice shooting lines of position, observing doubled bow/beam bearings, estimating run times and swinging the ship's compass in a constantly moving environment, presenting real world issues and opportunities. Consolidate and solidify your knowledge, skills and tricks learned in our earlier navigation programs.

Supplies Required: Plotting Tools, Calculator, Pencil, Eraser & Highlighter.

CON_205_n
This 2-hour on the water NIGHT TIME navigation challenge offers practice shooting lines of position, use of an observation deck log and navigating after dark in a constantly moving environment.
Requirements: CON_105_a
Supplies Required: Plotting Tools, Calculator, Pencil, Eraser & Highlighter.

GPS Navigation
This 2 hr Lanier on-the-water navigation outing includes review of the various GPS unit parameter options & nav info provided by the data pages, entry of destination Lat/Lon coordinates into various GPS units and their actual use.
