The New Colgate 26 Is Operational!  We have already conducted 2 classes aboard our newest member of the fleet and she is "SWEET".  This boat is very fast and extremely responsive, students say.  For a 26-footer, she is exceptionally stable and not "Tippy" at all!  Even when getting on and off at the dock, it is incredibly stable like the larger boats.

The cockpit is huge!

Most of the staff members were able to participate recently in a week long Performance program on Charlotte Harbor Bay, as well as out in the Gulf and found the Colgate to be a forgiving yet challenging and exciting boat to command.

She is now located at Aqualand dock ZB-2 and is already attracting quite a crowd of curious on lookers. Of course she's the first Colgate in the state of Georgia!

Our lady has been outfitted with a custom Lazy Jack/Stack Pack system similar to Jamaica Lieu, and many other additional features make her a pure joy to sail.  The powerful 6-hp 4-stroke outboard provides ample muscle for maneuvering along with charging ability for the onboard electrical system.

MONTHLY SOCIAL PROGRAMS (6-9 pm)
During the spring and summer months we offer monthly socials as an opportunity to share refreshments and to catch up with your sailing buddies. Social are super for comparing notes about explorations and sailing journeys, in allowing you to attend various programs that are offered without charge.  The agenda for each program is subject to change so that we can react to areas of current interest as events and opportunities present themselves.

Due to the limited seating capacity of the Sailing Center, reservations are required in advance.

The programs are free of charge, but volunteers and snack contributions are encouraged.

If you'd like to contribute any of the following items or any other dish that is your specialty
call us today. Together we'll plan for these fun events.

Chips & Dip
Cookies & Brownies
Cake
Soft Drinks (Sorry, no alcohol)
Finger Snacks
Frozen Shrimp Platter
Crackers & Cheese
Nuts

The following two programs are planned for this month's social:

June 19th

#1

Captain C.J. from our Punta Gorda affiliate, will come up for a presentation about the Coastal Sailing Opportunities in Charlotte Harbor and out to the Keys and Dry Tortugas.

#2

Bill Rountree and his son Robert will chronicle their 1 1/2 yr sabbatical sailing through the Abacos and the Exumas aboard their Endeavor 40.

The May monthly social was a real treat as Capt. Dave presented over a 100 slides (within 50 minutes) outlining his recent trip to the British Virgin Islands.

Tom Broome built and installed a Ring Toss game, which everyone enjoyed playing in the islands.  Nearly everyone got a ringer during the evening, although Tom did it on his very first attempt!

Dave brought in a docking line and cleat challenge for those more inclined to "Whipping" their boats to the dock.  A good time was had by all as each one tried these unusual challenges.

The June monthly social will be a "Double Hitter" program again.  (6-9 pm)

The first short presentation will feature Capt C. J., who has agreed to come up to talk about this season's events at our affiliate location (International Sailing School).  He'll also discuss the newly added offshore opportunities.

The second presentation will feature former student Bill Rountree and his 13-year-old son, Robert. They have recently returned from their year and a half sailing sabbatical through the Abacos and the Exumas aboard their Endeavor 40.
This should be an informative and entertaining evening for anyone with sights on sailing offshore in the Gulf, Atlantic or Caribbean!

National Vessel Examination Q & A Page

HOW SAFE IS YOUR BOAT?
Once again, Windsong is busy conducting U.S. Coast Guard approved and U.S. Sail and Power Squadron sponsored Vessel Safety Examinations (VSE) at Aqualand Marina and Holiday Marinas.  Safety inspections are free and cover all the Federal and State requirements for your size vessel (Sail or Power) in addition to general overall suggestions appropriate for safe and informed boating.  We do not issue citations nor report you to authorities for noncompliance.  Our intent is to inspect and educate. So far this season, we've inspected brand new boats that have failed, and have surprised seasoned boaters who learned that they were merely one DNR (law enforcing agency on Lanier) stop away from a hefty fine for violations.  One boat in particular had an inoperably crushed ventilation hose and another had cracks in the refueling hose leading to the fuel tank. If you or someone you know owns a boat, call us and we'll make arrangements for you to receive a courtesy inspection.

The love for sailing is something to be shared.  Remember, friends don't let their friends go through life without experiencing sailing!

Invite someone to join you today and you benefit, too!

GOT A BUSINESS YOU WANT TO ADVERTISE?
As a suggestion from one of our students, we're starting a Student Business Links web page. If you work for, own or are a principle in a business or have a hobby that you'd like to include on this free links page, send us your web address and a brief description about your business and services. Any special discounts extended to fellow students should be mentioned as well.  Students would certainly like to do business with one, so let us know about your business, service or hobby.

This month's newsletter is short and sweet ('cause we've been out of town a bit)
but intended to keep you informed of the latest developments and events.

PLEASE, REACH OUT AND TOUCH US,

                We're listening!!

Many times students' suggestions are implemented on the spot!  We pride ourselves in our customer service and attention to the needs of our students. If you have thoughts or ideas, drop us a line or give us a call.  All things are possible; you simply need to ask.

Thanks!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our students for their loyal support through the season(s) and encourage everyone to bring one new friend along each year as you sail.  As we grow and expand our operation, we want to make our products and services available to all who may be interested, but some one has to make the introduction.  Share the love of your sport with those who may be interested in our unique collection of programs. You'll be glad you did and so will they!
