Q. What is your cancellation policy? See answer |
A. To encourage advance reservations throughout the year we offer a very liberal cancellation policy. If your schedule or needs change, you can reschedule or cancel any reservation without penalty if properly communicated to our business office no later than
noon 4 days prior to your class reservation. A typical
Saturday reservation would need to be cancelled BEFORE noon the
prior Tuesday. |
Q. Why are there no refunds/exchanges inside the 4 day window? See answer |
A. To be fair to other passengers and to guarantee a place onboard
for guests who made advance reservations, we must enforce this policy.
This will permit us time to offer any cancellations to our other
students. It enables us to give the best customer service possible with a consistent policy.
Q. When will the decision be made to cancel a trip due to bad weather? See answer |
A. Since our goal is to provide the broadest range of training experiences for our students, we try to sail in all conditions unless the safety of our students, crew and vessels become an issue. Unless there's a storm heading our way, the decision typically can't reliably be made until just prior to departure time. With the exception of unpredictable last minute bad weather we will make every effort to make other weather related cancellations
by 9 pm the day prior to on-the-water training outings.

Q. Must I buy a ticket for an infant or toddler? See answer |
A. In general, infants and toddlers aboard are not a good idea. When participation is permitted by young adults, each is counted as a passenger according to the U.S. Coast Guard and must purchase a reservation.
Q. What should I wear for the cruise? See answer |
A. Soft-soled
non marking shoes are required and the dress is very casual and comfortable. Depending
upon the season, layered clothes work best. Everyone should bring their own rain gear and supplemental outer clothing.
Q. When do I need to show up? See answer |
A. We begin boarding at the time of your class reservation. Early boarding is not permitted so that our crew can maintain and prepare the vessel for your outing prior to your boarding. You must allow plenty of time for traffic and parking. We cannot hold the boat if you will be late. If you are late or "Miss the Boat", you are still responsible for the cost of your reservation.
Q. What kind of snacks come with the outing? See answer |
A. Unless the outing is a Sunset Cruise or other Corporate Outing, snacks are not provided. For leisurely non instruction outings assorted types of chips, pretzels, peanuts, cheese and peanut butter crackers, cookies and water or other non alcoholic soft drinks are provided
upon prior request.
Q. Can I bring a bottle of wine onboard? See answer |
A. No. Our insurance underwriters nor contracts with our concessionaires permit alcohol aboard our vessels.
Q. Can I smoke onboard? See answer |
A. There is no smoking permitted on any
outings. This includes vaping, cigars, pipes or any other
smoke generating items.
Q. Can I bring food onboard a public cruise? See answer |
A. No. Only certain types of refreshments work well aboard sailboats due to the wind
and constant motion of the boat. If appropriate they will be provided during the outing.
Q. What about motion sickness? See answer |
A. Since we sail in relatively protected waters, it is very rare for people to get seasick (less than 1%). We recommend use of
Bonine or Motion-Eaze, both
available over the counter, if you are concerned about this.
Too much "partying" prior to boarding is not a good idea either! |
Q. What about being caught out in a lightning storm? See answer |
A. During the summertime, lightning storm forecasts are a common occurrence. Most of these do not materialize, but if one does "pop up" while sailing and whenever possible, we will head for the dock as soon as we can. Our
Captains are excellent at reading these storms: where they are and where they are going.
Because everyone's needs and comfort levels do vary, if "Getting
Wet" is a concern you should bring your own raingear. |
Q. Why must I purchase a life jacket for my child under 35 pounds? See answer |
A. The U.S. Coast Guard has not officially approved a child's lifejacket for commercial passenger boats for children under 35 lbs, therefore,
by law we cannot permit participation by those under 35 lbs.
We might be able to accommodate young adults under age 13 but over 35 lbs
based on availability, however a life jacket that fits
properly that they have
previous experience with might be a lot more comfortable than
the standard issue USCG jackets that we are required to carry.
All young adults under age 13 in the State of Georgia are
required to wear a USCG approved life jacket at all times while
aboard the vessel. We recommend that you bring one that is
comfortable that they don't mind wearing for the duration of the
trip.

Q. Can we go below decks to get out of the rain and/or extreme heat? See answer |
A.
For safety and to permit oversight by staff, we do not permit
participants to go below deck, except in a severe emergency or
special circumstance approved by the Captain, because prolonged time
below decks can cause motion sickness, a fall, or other injury.

Q. What about Private Charters? See answer |
